If you’re currently studying at UCLan, or have plans to in the future, you may be wondering what you can do in the city. From the buzzing nightlife and contemporary shopping centres to the culture-filled museums and beautiful greenspaces, there’s plenty to do.
Here are some of our favourite places to hang out in Preston.
We absolutely love Avenham Park, especially in summer! It’s the perfect place to take a picnic with your friends, have a leisurely stroll in between classes or simply sit and enjoy a little bit of me time. The park has its own Japanese Garden which is both spectacular to look at and extremely peaceful. If you’re a current UCLan student or are heading there in September, we recommend a visit to Avenham Park!
Fancy heading out for something to eat? Turtle Bay has some of the tastiest food in the area and if you like Caribbean food, it’s an absolute must-go. They offer lots of mouthwatering dishes, from Trini chicken curry to jerk sirloin steak, as well as vegetarian and vegan options like chickpea and callaloo curry. For those with a sweet tooth, you can finish off your meal with salted caramel brownie, banoffee and cheesecake or perhaps a spiced rum chocolate pot.
And did we mention that they have a 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour? So, you can enjoy your favourite cocktail, or even try a brand new one, without breaking the bank!
If you’re a student at UCLan, you will probably have heard about this one before. Source Bar is the official student bar that offers food and drink every day, as well as showing live sport and hosting social events.
On Tuesdays, Source Bar ha
s a karaoke and cocktail night and on Sundays there are speed quizzes. This means that you never have to struggle to find something to do in Preston ever again!
Preston Guild Hall
The Preston Guild Hall & Charter Theatre is one of the city’s best venues. They put on a variety of shows, from dance and pantomime to singing and comedy. You will also find that some of the UK’s best-known comedians and performers occasionally make an appearance here. In the past, they have hosted the likes of Busted, Bowling for Soup, Sarah Millican and Dara Ó Briain.
So if you fancy doing something a little bit different, check our what shows The Preston Guild Hall has planned for the rest of the year!
The Adelphi has become one of the most popular venues in Preston, especially with students. They offer cheap food and drinks so if you’re after some pre-night-out grub, this is the perfect place for you! They also show some of the best sports events, like Wrestlemania, Champions League games and the Super Bowl.
If this isn’t enough to sway you, they also have live bands and quiz nights so whether you fancy a dance or want to put your knowledge to the test, there is something for everyone at the Adelphi.
Belong Gaming Arenas
Have you heard of Belong Gaming Arenas? They “are a social space for the competitive gamers, casual and social, as well as the newest and freshest faces in the world of gaming.” The Preston arena is located in Game store inside St George’s Shopping Centre. They have gaming PCs, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles along with the latest games for you to play against your friends.
Are you ready to compete for the winning title? If you want to give this a go, you will need to book a time and date, as well as how long you want to play for, which you can do on the Game website here.
Preston’s newest leisure venue is one that we can’t forget! It has bowling, laser tag, crazy golf and karaoke, just to name a few! They also serve pizzas, burgers and other delicious food which can be ordered in the bar area, to your bowling lane or in one of the private booths. And when it comes to drinks, they have everything you could ever want from beer, cider and cocktails to soft drinks, mocktails and hot beverages.
This 1500-person capacity venue hosts live acts and DJ sets throughout the year. In the next few months, they have “Crave the Rave presents Wild West Recordings”, a Foo Fighters tribute band and “Voyage of the Damned” which will feature 10 hours of rock music.
Tickets for these events available via Skiddle. If none of these grab your fancy, don’t worry! We’re sure they will add more events in 2019 so keep your eyes peeled!
